The author, Allan M Blanch, strongly desired this biography have a substantial book feel, even though content hovered under 72 pages, with a firm preference for warmer off-white papers. Mostly, the brief was open.
As designer, my objective was to create something tactile, beautiful, collectable; rewarding to the reader visually; and to do justice to the book’s subject and the passion and dedication of the author himself.
Through a combination of layout approach and author-designer consultation, content and imagery were expanded to hit a sweet spot of 84 text pages, and then the bulk and texture of the paper took over and delivered on the brief.
